Robert Mathews grew up in a shoemaking family. His grandfather did research on foot health and shoe design in the 1920s and ’30s at Antioch College and was a pioneer in the field of natural footwear. Rob learned the basics of his craft at an early age and has been expanding his knowledge and skills ever since.
Expert Craftsman
Rob has a keen eye for detail and does meticulous work. He is an expert pattern maker and a dedicated problem solver. He listens carefully to what his clients need and want in their custom footwear.
In 1998 he received his professional certification in pedorthics, after study at The University of Oklahoma at Okumulgee. This allows him to work with your podiatrist to incorporate all of your prescribed requirements into your custom made shoes.
Rob & Barbara
Rob was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy and at Middlebury College, where he met his wife Barbara. They have worked together since 1975. Barbara is involved in the design and making of the shoes, as well as taking care of their clients and organizing the business. Her talent for color and design is much appreciated by clients when they are selecting their latest custom creation. Together Rob and Barbara have created a business, raised a family, and restored their antique farmstead. They especially enjoy the challenges and satisfactions of fulfilling the particulars of every order and love hearing from happy customers who are wearing their handmade shoes with comfort and delight.

We’ve gone solar!
We are excited to announce that we have gone solar!
With our third solar project in 2020 the barn roof is now covered in panels and generating power for all of our current power needs with a surplus for the electric vehicle we hope to purchase sometime soon.
In 2013, ReVision Energy installed thirty solar panels on the roof of our 200 year old barn. These supply all the power for our studio.
